Makemi Understands Small Business

Makemi Understands Small Business

Makemi Understands Small Business

There are so many books by those with no (nada, none) experience or expertise in small business.  There are so many Gurus without experience or expertise. There are so many know-it-alls, who have never owned a small business, have never met a cash flow; have never missed a car or house payment or dinner for their family because of a lack of cash.  There are so many living on the public dole that have never owned or operated a small business when no credit is available for any needs.  This condemnation includes President Barack Obama and his new White House Chief of Staff, William M. Daly.   Can you imagine how a man experienced in politics and large cap corporations can have a inkling about the reality of small business?  Can you imagine someone from JPMorgan Chase, the bank  that is making so much money on fees from you and not lending accumulated cash to you, understanding small business?  Remember, JP Morgan Chase benefitted from the meltdown and bailout and was even able to steal WAMU for 1.9 billion when they had valued it at 28 just months before internally.  Is this going to be a new perspective of business friendly for you? We think it is a continuation of enlarged government shifting burdens to homeowners and small business in partnership with large cap corporations and Wall Street.  We see a continued neglect of non-union workers and an ignorant bias that is detrimental to America and our future against small business, the creator of new jobs, and our hope for America’s future.

This condemnation includes most of academia, congress, institutional employees, corporate employees and most of Wall Street. They are all part of Large Cap and Government organizations.  Not even unions (labor corporations) are excluded from the list of those who do not know what they do not know; the most dangerous place for anyone to be in, especially when taking actions. Unions like the Teachers, AARP (old people), Teamsters, AFL-CIO, Service Employees contributed equally to the current malaise affecting families, workers, homeowners and especially small business while protecting their onw self-interests.

Small business has carried some 63% of the burden of this recession compared to a 34% burden in previous recessions. In this recession there has been no (nada, none) relief, fair treatment or bailouts for small business.  Small business remains at the bottom of the economic totem pole.  Republicans and Democrats alike espouse the importance of small business to building America and in its future and yet the profits are going to Large Cap corporations and the “program to increase exports” is but a government subsidized effort to get more business for large corporations and to support their investments overseas in jobs and economies.  The Ashley Twins have more patriotism and sound economics with their Made in America RAW brand of clothing wear.  What si wrong with Made in America?  Black & Decker survived near death and became an international competitor with Made in America.  When are Americans going to stand up for the Americans who made this great economy; small businesses?

They say that the Small Business Hiring Surges added 177,000 jobs in December meaning the politics and programs are working.  This is as bad reporting and wrong. This is similar to last April 2010 when they announced new jobs and the majority of the new jobs were temporary employees for the Census Bureau.   Where is the honesty?

Of course Small Businesses added employees in December.  That does not mean they were healthy or benefitting form anyone anywhere. Most small businesses added few employees for December, mostly temporary clerks. The small business owners and families have been working since the melt-down and continue to work 12-16 hour days 7-days a week “doing most of it themselves” and with bare-bones staff while   Between the economic meltdown, government neglect and weather conditions we had what was a per4fect storm” for small businesses who often get 40%-75% of the annual revenue in December.  They had to reduce prices and increase transactions and increase work to make far less than needed to sustain their efforts, maybe even survive.   Why is it that in all the press and media as well as elected officials with superior retirement and benefits living on the public dole did not care, speak up or direct TARP money or other unspent funds to useful efforts like credit for viable and sound small businesses?  The programs worked for General Motors, AIG and others, why not the same for small business?  All seemed afraid to report casualty numbers; how many small businesses have gone under or are ready to go under.

We predict, given that retail sales were lower than expected for December that most of the employees were as temporary as census workers and the lot of Small Business, instead of improving, continued the downward spiral.

Our problems are not unique to us in a global economy. We shared this writing with a young and patriotic Chinese small business person living in China who made the following comments:

Amazing! Both China’s economy and America’s economy are controlled by interest groups who manipulate government on the sly and do not care about small business which has nothing to do with them.  But small business is very important to a country’s economy. Prosperous small business is the indication of blooming economy and ensures a country’s long-term development. But small business needs lots of time (12-16 hours a day, and no holiday) and gets owners to bear risks. Many friends of me are afraid of long time work and failure though they ever wanted to have their own business. That’s the problem. I think in America, same problem exists. Young men prefer to choose working in company. So I advise that besides exposing the truth of small business we should encourage people to start an undertaking. We can say:”You are always an employee if you work in company. But you can be a boss if you create your own business though the business is small.”

This sounds like the eternal call for freedom of choice, enjoy the fruits from efforts and answer to no one.  Are we really different than other sin this world at the level of family and individual at the mercy of forces outside their control?

Makemi has a history from young family days that includes the White House, government, military, corporations and predominantly small businesses.   Makemi instituted the program of FREE CONSULTING as one small patriotic effort with limited resources in tough times to help other small businesses.  We believe that in these times we all win or all lose together. Small business is being ignored, denied credit access, burdened with regulation, taxes and health care at a time when all bailouts, benefits and support are going to large caps and governments living on the taxpayer.  Please post your comments.  This is your forum, your small business center.  Makemiweb.com is just getting it started, but it is you the small business community that will make it an effective voice from the owners’ perspectives for small business of 1-50 full-time employees.  Please post your comments, thank you.
